PRESIDENTS ADDRESS 2025
Dear Members and fellow supporters… where do I begin.
Being President of the Letchworth & District Bowls Association 2025, is an honour that I am grateful to receive. My first game for the association was in 1992 making this my 34th season, and I have had the pleasure of playing for the ‘L&D’ every year since that game.
It’s been an absolute privilege to have stood alongside so many great men and talented bowlers, many of whom are no longer with us but will always be remembered with great affection. I’ve seen this association at its very best, when nominations for six rinks exceeded the amount that could play, and we were lucky to be selected for more than one game in a full season.
Sadly, the game we all love has suffered over the years, and if it were not for the dedication of the officers and the commitment of a few loyal supporters, the L&D fixtures could easily disappear. So, whether you’re a new bowler or a veteran, whether you’re a novice or a professional, I urge you to put your name forward for at least one of the districts fixtures. They are an enjoyable day’s bowling, which I can highly recommend. Hopefully, a few of the many friends I have in this sport, will find some time to come along and join me in supporting the L&D B.A. for what I hope will be a memorable season.
My charity this year will be the ‘British Heart Foundation’. I’ve chosen to support this charity as I believe that heart and circulatory diseases take too many of our friends and family whilst they still have so much life to live. I will never forget the pain I felt after losing my younger brother aged 51, my best friend aged 56, and then my father soon after. All three were avid supporters of the Letchworth District Bowls Association and I have great memories of the time we spent together on the green.
I’m really looking forward to seeing what this season brings. The fun, the entertainment, the laughter and of course the bowls, and whether you’re a player or a spectator, I sincerely hope you enjoy every minute of it.
